Fundraising for the Andrea Gibson/Julie Colwell Podcast

I’ve been sending out fundraising letters for the last hour, and now I feel like crying. Each letter is another pronouncement of Andrea Gibson’s influence on me, and on the world. And another reminder of their absence. (Though, truly, I know they’re just on the other side of the veil.)

Here’s what I’ve been asking for money about and for. Want to be part of it?

Most of you know Andrea, even very well. In case you don’t, they were an internationally renowned spoken word artist who I had the pleasure of working with over decades. If you happened to see Come See Me in the Good Light, the Oscar-nominated documentary, you already have a sense of who they were.

About three years ago, Andrea told me they wanted to do whatever they could to help bring my work into the world. Around the same time, podcast creator Erica Anderson independently expressed a similar desire. It quickly became clear that we should collaborate. That collaboration turned into many hours of recorded conversations between the three of us, exploring how my work transformed Andrea’s life, and how our connection shaped us both. I send out my love and gratitude to Andrea, in whatever plane they now exist.

Erica, along with Michele Arrieta, has spent months carefully weaving those conversations into an 8–10 episode limited-series podcast, which we’re planning to release this September.

I’ve had the chance to hear the first few episodes, and I find them powerful, heartfelt, and at times heartbreaking—while also being a beautiful reflection of the work I’ve been developing over my entire adult life. I’m truly thrilled by what’s been created.

We’re now in the final phase of the project, raising $65,000 to complete production and bring this series fully into the world.
